We practice a synergy of the art and science of building healthy and whole communities. Using collaborative strategies and techniques to produce desired community changes is inherently rewarding and messy. It is an arena that requires an intentional and principled approach, balanced with a great measure of flexibility. This is an arena that is not amenable to “canned” approaches.  CI develops and proposes custom service options after endeavoring to fully understand the client’s desired outcomes and context. All of our work is based on these core principles:

• Focus on vision and values (vs. problem orientation) to get break-through results
• The use of participative change methods will save time
• Start by understanding assets and deficits—and build on the assets
• Let measurable data inform, not drive your change
• Facilitative leadership is essential
• Be intentional about building trusting relationships
• The capacity and practice of dialogue is foundational
• The ability to laugh and learn together goes a long way
