Common Good Works

CommonGood Works (CGW) dreams of a world where resources are stewarded justly and sustainably to ensure the well-being of all. This vision fuels CGW’s commitment to supporting personal and collective transformation in a variety of settings, including corporate, public, healthcare, education and non-profit. CGW believes that transformation happens as individuals and organizations renew commitment to their deepest values, look honestly at the gaps between their truest desires and what currently exists, and take courageous action, in community with others, to manifest the future that they envision.

CommonGood Works builds communities and institutions of integrity by forming individuals of integrity who have the capacity and commitment to act for the good of the whole. CGW provides inspiring training, education and key note addresses; organizational development consulting, coaching; and communities of practice for individuals, institutions and communities developing personal and organizational integrity and seeking to advance the common good.”

CI and CommonGood Works have begun to work together to foster growth and change in people, communities and institutions through processes and experiences which:

  1. Nurture the development of values-based leadership oriented toward and motivated by the common good.
  2. Create spaces in which community members are able to learn and practice the skills of partnership and collaboration.
  3. Move “hearts and minds” by supporting (re)connection to both internal and collective centers of values and meaning.
  4. Explore the concepts and practical strategies for nurturing and aligning values-based change at multiple levels of society (individuals, institutions, communities, systems and culture).
  5. (Re)Focus the terms of public dialogue and how we define success around advancing the common good.
  6. Create opportunities for contemplative reflection and reflective-practice, modeling one way in which individuals and groups effectively learn from their efforts, celebrate their accomplishments, recognize both longstanding and newly developed capacities and move their shared work deeper and farther.

CARES - Center for Applied Research & Environmental Systems
cares

CI and the University of Missouri’s Center for Applied Research and Environmental Systems (CARES) are teaming up to offer their combined experiences and tools to support community improvement efforts. For over 15 years, CARES has integrated the social, physical, and biological sciences to better understand environmental, natural resource and human issues and solutions. The Center utilizes the latest technologies in geographic information systems, satellite imagery, environmental modeling, and the internet to compile, analyze and distribute information about our world.

CARES provides organizations and communities with facilitation technologies to improve decision making. Communities, governments and organizations increasingly rely on data and geographic information technologies to examine the place-based impacts of public policies; however, they often lack the time, the expertise or the technological infrastructure to make the best use of these resources for decision-making. CARES produces technologies that transcend these common constraints by providing tools for issues framing, facilitation, decision support, and data integration—see the Community Issues Management (CIM) tool. CARES’ tools allow decision makers to deliberate how best to align resources with organizations, people and “place.” CARES has demonstrated a strong commitment to helping governments, communities and non-profits around the world to establish and sustain healthy and whole communities. Dr. Chris Fulcher, Co-Director for CARES, serves as the primary liaison to CI.
