Active Living by Design
Active Living by Design is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is a part of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This program establishes innovative approaches to increase physical activity and healthy eating through community design, public policies and communications strategies. Active Living by Design is working with 25 community partnerships across the country to demonstrate how changing community design will impact physical activity.

Planning for Healthy Places

Planning for Healthy Places works to engage public health advocates in the land-use decision-making process throughout California. PHP develops tools for training advocates in the relationship between the built environment and public health, and provides technical assistance for creating and implementing land use policies that support healthier communities.

Project for Public Spaces

Project for Public Spaces is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people create and sustain public spaces that build stronger communities. Imagine a plaza or town square bustling with people who are greeting each other, buying, selling, and exchanging ideas. For everyone striving to make public spaces better, PPS is that town square. Their vision is to act as the central hub of the global Placemaking movement, connecting people to ideas, expertise, and partners who share a passion for creating vital places.

Smart Growth Network
The SGN works to encourage development that serves the economy, community and the environment. It is a forum for raising public awareness of how growth can improve community quality of life; promoting smart growth best practices; developing and sharing information, innovative policies, tools and ideas; cultivating strategies to address barriers to and advance opportunities for smart growth. One of the Network’s core programs – Smart Growth Online – is a web-based catalogue of Smart Growth related news, events, information and resources.
